Fat Transfer/Grafting

Fat Transfer/Grafting

Fat transfer is also used to enhance the lips and is a more natural way to add volume to cheeks or buttocks without the complications or unnatural look of implants. Patients have been very pleased with the appearance, and the cost and recovery are usually much less than with other surgical procedures.

Many of our patients for fat grafting have previously undergone treatment with fillers, and the fat transfer is a very economical way to add multiple syringes of a natural “filler” that lasts longer in most cases. Fat is good for a volume effect to restore the lost volume with aging. It is helpful for those that are not ready for, or do not quite need, a facelift, or for additional rejuvenation after a previous facelift. It restores the natural appearance and helps avoid the operated look.

The procedure involves liposuction of fat, then centrifuge of the fat, and then micro-syringe transfer of small droplets of the fat into the tissue. It can easily be done under sedation. Most patients are doing well the next day, but do have some swelling and bruising for about a week. An average of 80% of the fat grafted survives in 80% of the patients.*
