We offer light therapies including Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacials to Gentlewaves® Light Emitted Diodes (LEDs) which help clarify and restore the skin. Visia® Imaging System is also offered to specifically target skin care treatments for you both at home and in the spa.

Microdermabrasion

The Ponds offers Conventional and DiamondTome™ Microdermabrasion systems. A series of these gentle, no downtime treatments removes dead skin cells, deep cleans pores, and refines fine lines. Microdermabrasion is useful for aging and acne skin types.

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, non-chemical, non-invasive method of skin resurfacing. This new treatment is helpful for skin discoloration, fine wrinkles, acne, and rough skin texture. Recovery time is rapid.

Microdermabrasion is the step between a chemical peel and cosmetic surgery with immediate benefits. The procedure has been called the "lunch time" peel or Parisian peel because it takes less than 30 minutes and also allows you to return to work immediately.

Microdermabrasion offers a multi-step process to skin restoration without the pain, cost and recuperation time associated with modern day acid peels and laser. You may have this treatment every two weeks. It is recommended that you have at least 6 – 8 treatments.

Acceptable results of more aggressive treatment can be redness and slight swelling immediately following treatment, but these should resolve in 2 – 3 hours. Side effects can easily be covered up with makeup. Makeup can be applied immediately following a treatment.

Topical pain medications are not necessary. If a crust would occur after the procedure, apply an antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin, or another triple antibiotic ointment over the area until they are healed. The crust will usually exfoliate in 3 – 5 days.

The consultation for this procedure is complimentary with our Aesthetician Bobbi Lucas.

The price for a single treatment is $80 and $275 for a package of 4 treatments.

Intense Pulsed Light

A series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments are designed to reduce brown and red pigments on the skin. An intense flash of light is delivered deep into the skin’s surface, improving the clarity and tone of the skin. This treatment is very beneficial to those troubled by rosacea, sun damage, mild acne scarring and enlarged pores.

Gentle Waves

A series of these painless treatments allows Light Emitted Diodes (LEDs) to encourage collagen formation. These "skin fitness" treatments are FDA approved for all skin types. We encourage them as a stand alone program or to add on to any other spa treatment. Visit the Gentlewaves® website for additional information.

Chemical Peels

The Ponds is well known for customizing peel programs. We offer a wide variety of mild to moderate AHA and Jessner’s peels to correct concerns ranging from active acne, aging skin, and sun damage. These programs can be designed around active individuals who prefer a no downtime treatment approach to correcting and maintaining beautiful skin!

The Ponds at Iowa Plastic Surgery responds to individual needs by offering the safest and most advanced medical skin care available. Complimentary consultations including a Visia® Analysis are offered to customize a result-oriented program that meets your needs.

Glycolic (fruit acid) peels are a milder chemical peel that is more commonly known as the “lunch time” peel. We will do the traditional deep peel or laser treatment for those conditions that warrant it.

Glycolic peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles, and uneven skin pigmentation.

Most patients experience redness for 1 – 2 days and some patients may experience visible peeling of the skin and occasionally small blisters.

The products purchased over the counter typically have 1 – 2% Glycolic Acid. The concentration used in our peels is much stronger, starting at 20% and progressing to 70%. For patients who have a deeper condition, the traditional peel or a laser treatment may be recommended.

We typically start out with a milder peel, however, to get the improvement that you desire it may require several sessions to progress to a higher concentration of peel. Other products are available for use with Glycolic Acid, including maintenance moisturizers and cleansers, Retin A or Renova. You may also use a lightening agent such as Hydroquinone or Mela-D.

Glycolic peels usually heal in 24 – 48 hours. The peels are done in our medical spa and do not require anesthesia. You are able to drive yourself home. Avoid sun tanning and windburn for 1 – 2 weeks after treatment.

The risks of this treatment are as follows: Discoloration and scarring are very rare. Blistering will usually occur only in the areas that you wish to be treated more deeply.

If blistering occurs after a chemical peel, it usually only involves placing an antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin or Neosporin over the areas until they are healed. This usually takes several days. Avoiding extreme sunlight is essential in the month after treatment.

The price range for chemical peels is $60 - $100 per treatment. These are not covered by insurance.
